 Family & Christmas Fun!

[back to THEMES]

  Objectives ~

My Family

Each of us is a member of a family.

The structure of a family and our relationship in that family is important.
~ Families come in many different shapes and sizes.
~Families are alike in some ways, and very different
in other ways.

We have responsibilities (jobs) in our family.

Family rules are needed for order and safety.

Families have traditions that they pass on to their children, based on culture and religion.
~ Christmas traditions vary all over the world, and yet
there are similarities.

The Gingerbread Man

There are several versions of the story of the Gingerbread Man.
~ We can compare and contrast the similarities and
differences between the various books.

Christmas Crafts & Traditions

Certain decorations, symbols, and customs are shared by many.

Giving of gifts and cards is traditional.

Christmas is a time to let those we care for know through various activities.

In December we talk about our families - how they are
alike and how they are different. We talk about our role at home
and how we can do our part to make a happy family for all.
Christmas traditions are shared and we enjoy several
crafts and activities centered around the holidays.

WHAT IS A FAMILY?
(Sung to tune "Rock-a-Bye Baby")

Families are big,
And families are small,
Families give love,
And care to us all.

People in families
Work and play, too.
I live in a family,
And so do you!

Families are different,
None are the small.
Some families have
Special names.

Families have ways,
So special and fine.
You love your family,
I sure love mine!

The Very Nicest Place

The fish lives in the brook,
The bird lives in the tree,
But home's the very nicest place
For a little child like me!

The Gingerbread Man

Stir a bowl of gingerbread,
Smooth and spicy brown.
Roll it with a rolling pin,
Up and up and down.
With a cookie cutter,
Make some little men.
Put them in the oven
Till half past ten!

Eat, Eat, Your Gingerbread Boy
(tune of "Row, Row, Row, Your Boat)

Eat, eat, your Gingerbread Boy,
Before he runs away.
Faster, faster, faster please,
Don't let him get away!

Catch, catch the Gingerbread Boy,
Catch him, yes, today.
Faster, faster, faster still,
For he has run away.

Say bye-bye to the  Gingerbread Boy.
Say good-bye today.
Say so long for he is gone.
The fox ate him today.

Gingerbread Children

Gingerbread children
Stand in a row.
Very good children
Always you know.

They never will jump
Or kick or leap,
Or start to cry when
It's time to sleep.

They never run off
Or look around.
And no one has heard
Them make a sound.

Gingerbread children
Are fine to meet,
But, much better still,
They're good to eat!

Five Little Trees

Five little trees, sitting on a hill.
The first one said, “I think I feel a chill!”
The second one said, “There’s a man in town.”
The third one said, “He’s going to cut us down!”
The fourth one said, “Then we’ll shine and shine!”
The fifth one said, “Because it’s Christmas time!!”

 Then, “Ah-h-h-h-h-h“ went the people
As one went the lights,
And the five little trees
Were all shining bright!
