Colors & Shapes!

[back to THEMES]

  Objectives ~

We can identify and name ten basic colors: red, yellow, blue, green, purple, orange, brown, black, white and pink.

We are beginning to recognize color words (the written names of colors).

We can sort a collection of items by color.

We can name some familiar objects and their common colors (such as the sun is yellow, an orange is orange, the sky is blue, etc.).

We can identify and name four basic shapes: square, circle, triangle, rectangle

We can sort a collection of objects by their shape.

We are able to name the basic shape of familiar objects around us.

We know that shapes come in different sizes and can be found in different positions.

* Thanks to these great sites for the graphics ~ what talent!

Most of our Kindergartners seem to be coming to school knowing their colors and
most of the shapes fairly well. We spend our time reviewing them

through some special books and crafts.
We do work on being able to read the color words
throughout the year.
Here are some of our Theme activities.

I Love Colors

I love colors,
Yes, I do.
Red and orange and green and blue.
I love colors,
Dark or bright,
Yellow, purple, black, and white!

If Your Clothes Have Any Color
(to the tune of "If You're Happy and You Know It")

If your clothes have any red, any red,
If your clothes have any red, any red,
If your clothes have any red,
Put your hands up on your head,
If your clothes have any red, any red.

If your clothes have any blue, any blue,
If your clothes have any blue, any blue,
If your clothes have any blue,
Put your finger on your shoe,
If your clothes have any blue, any blue.

If your clothes have any green, any green,
If your clothes have any green, any green,
If your clothes have any green,
Wave your hand so you are seen,
If your clothes have any green, any green,

If your clothes have any yellow, any yellow,
If your clothes have any yellow, any yellow,
If your clothes have any yellow,
Laugh like a happy fellow,
If your clothes have any yellow, any yellow.
ha, ha, ha!

If your clothes have any white, any white,
If your clothes have any white, any white,
If your clothes have any white,
Give a hug with all your might,
If your clothes have any white, any white,

If your clothes have any black, any black,
If your clothes have any black, any black,
If your clothes have any black,
Pat your neighbor on the back,
If your clothes have any black, any black,

If your clothes have any brown, any brown,
If your clothes have any brown, any brown,
If your clothes have any brown,
Make a smile like a clown,
If your clothes have any brown, any brown.

And everywhere I go!

Ollie Oval

A football shape is mine
Some people think that I'm an egg
But I think I look fine!

Tommy Triangle

Look at me!
Count my sides.
One, two, three.

Ricky Rectangle

Ricky Rectangle is my name.
My four sides are not the same.
2 are short and 2 are long.
Count my sides, come right along.
1, 2, 3, 4.

Danny Diamond

I am Danny Diamond
I am like a kite
But I'm really just a square
Who's corners are pulled tight.

Suzy Circle

I'm happy as can be.
I go round and round.
Can you draw me?

Sammy Square

Sammy Square is my name.
My four sides are just the same.
Turn me around, I don't care.
I'm always the same.
I'm Sammy Square.

Make A Circle
(to the tune of "Pop Goes the Weasel")

Round and round on the paper I go,
What fun to go around like so,
What have I made, do you know?
I made a circle!

Harry Heart

Harry Heart is my name,
The shape I make is my fame,
With a point on the bottom,
And two humps on top,
When it comes to love,
I just can't stop!
