My Education & Experience ~ I received my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education from Seattle Pacific University in 1974.  At that time I was married and we were expecting our second child.  I didn't begin my teaching career until all four of our children were in school.  I began teaching Kindergarten in 1986 at Beacon Elementary and have been there ever since.  (Twenty years and counting!)  In 2001 I finished my Masters Degree in Creative Arts through Lesley University out of Boston.  That was a wonderful experience!  I continue to take classes each year to keep up with new ideas and techniques.  I love learning new things, and consider myself a life-long learner!

My Family ~ I have four grown children.  My oldest son is 37 and is a sheet-metal journeyman.  My only daughter is 35 and married to a special man.  They were part of a Christian drama group called Covenant Players and tour all over the United States for 13 years.  Now they have settled down to a more stable life in Portland, OR.  It's nice to know they are closer!  My middle son is 34 and an electrician journeyman.  My youngest son is 30 and is a computer programmer at the state capital.  They are my pride and joy!  It is so hard to realize how grown up they are ~ I still remember their father and I being anxious about them all being teenagers at the same time!  We survived, rather nicely since they have been great kids to raise.  I have lots of wonderful memories and they give my new ones every day.  They are so dear to me!  (And they all love coming to my classroom when they can - and would you believe that I still have a few toys that actually belonged to them!  Now that is fun to watch them relive their own memories!)  I have two married brothers with very special families of their own. My Mom passed away over two years ago - I miss her greatly as she was a big inspiration to me and my number one fan.  There are lots of wonderful memories, but I do miss her!

I am also blessed with my FIRST Grandchild ~ little Jessa Ann Elizabeth.  She is nearly three years old already!  Oh, my!  She is an absolute blessing and an angel.  I don't know which I love more - watching her or watching my middle son as a father.  He and Jessa's Mom are wonderful parents and she is one bright, alert, and terrific child!  Grandmother-hood is WONDERFUL!!

My Pets ~ I have two cats at home.  Callie is a 8-year old calico - mostly white with gray and tan areas . . . and long hair that sheds all over the place.  And then there's Sam-Sam.  He is a 7-year old tabby and very energetic!  His stripes are adorable and his tummy is spotted like a leopard.  He is a character and loves to play.  His favorite resting place is in my lap with Callie right under my chin.  They both give me a lot of companionship, and I enjoy them very much.

At school, I have a two goldfish.  I think I will let the class give them new names this year.  They are a fun addition to the classroom.

My Interests ~ Now that the children are grown and on their own, and I am a single lady these days, I decided to but a small home four years ago.  I enjoy my home decorating it inside and out (although I didn't get much done in the yard and garden this summer).  I hope to do some inside work this school year and work on my workbench in the garage.  I have a table saw and a few other great tools and hope to build a few things for the house.  I enjoy quilting and crafts, although finding the time can be difficult.  I'm an avid TV watcher and have several favorite shows which I watch regularly.  My boys even let me golf with them from time to time and I bowl on two leagues during the school year.  But it is school that takes up most of my time.  I love teaching and I spend a lot of time and energy preparing things and planning the year.  You may see my little car at school a lot!

My Goals ~ Personally, since my children are grown and I am single, I have been working on getting to know me better (being a wife and mother can put oneself on the back burner).  It is a work in progress!  I am trying to "get a life" as my children tell me, but it is easier said than done!  There are some projects I hope to do on my home in the next few years.  As far as school in concerned I will continue to take classes and workshops to keep current and inspired. Our full-day program is keeping me very busy right now!  Working on the web site this summer has been fun.  My goal is to keep up with it now!
I am also working on exercising more and losing a lot of weight - I need all the energy I can muster for those little ones!  They seem to be getting more busy and active every year!  It can't possibly be my age, can it?!
