Objectives ~
There is more water than land on the earth.
Many
plants and animals live in the ocean.
These plants and animals come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and
colors.
People use the ocean in many ways: for food, transportation,
recreation, and sometimes as a dumping ground.
We
need to keep our ocean clean for plants, animals and people.
We Care for the Earth
Living things need a clean environment.
~ People use land for growing food, transportation, for building
things, and for recreation.
~ People use the earth’s water for drinking, washing, enjoyment,
and transportation.
~ People use the air for breathing, transportation,
energy (such as a windmill), and recreation.
Certain factors contribute to air, water, and land pollution:
littering, waste materials, exhaust, toxic chemicals, trash, and
smoke.
Pollution of the air, water, and land are harmful to the earth
and the things that live on it.
Many
materials can be recycled and reused. Other materials can be
used less without waste - - reduced. |

Montesano is
located about 35 minutes from the Pacific Ocean.

We are fortunate to be so close to this
amazing habitat.
The children love this Theme because most of them are
able
to share many experiences of
their visits to the beach.
The seashore and the open ocean offer a great variety
of interesting things to explore!
Caring for the wonderful world we have learned about this year
is important for us and for our future children.
We want them to be able to experience it in a healthy environment.

Sand
(tune of “Frere Jacques”)
Sand is gritty,
Sand is gritty,
At the beach,
At the beach.
Sand is many tiny rocks
Broken down from bigger rocks,
At the beach,
At the beach.
I
Went to the Beach
I went to the beach
And what did I see?
A fish in the water
(Using hand and make it like a fish swimming)
Splashing at me!
I went to the beach
And what did I see?
A shell in the sand
(Make one fist with one
hand and have the other finger tap top of fist)
Sparkling at me!
I went to the beach
And what did I see?
A crab in its shell
(Make a crab using all 10
fingers--place hand over
other hand and wiggle fingers)
Waving at me!
I went to the beach
And what did I see?
A bird on the sand
(Using fingers- make thumb
and index finger
touch each other making a bird's beak)
Looking at me!
We're
Little Orange Crabs
(tune of "Farmer In The Dell")
We're little orange crabs,
Who live down by the sea.
And wherever we do go,
We're quick as quick can be.
We're little orange crabs,
Who like to run and hide.
And when you see us walking by,
It's always side-to-side.
Five
Little Crabs
One little crab, lonely and blue,
It met another crab, now there are two.
Two little crabs living near the sea,
Out crawled another, now there are three.
Three little crabs went off to explore,
They soon found another, now there are four.
Four little crabs, glad to be alive,
They found a new friend, now there are five.
Now five little crabs are as happy as can be,
Under a rock by the deep blue sea.

Five Little Fishes
Five little fishes
Swimming in the sea.
The first one said,
The sea’s for me!
The second one said,
The sea is deep.
The third one said,
I want to sleep.
The fourth one said,
Let's dive and dip.
The fifth one said.
I spy a ship.
The boat comes,
and a line goes kerplash.
Away the five little fishies dash!
Whales
(tune of “I'm A Little Teapot”)
I'm a Humpback Whale,
I'm very strong.
I leap about
And sing a song.
I like to eat my fill
In the Northern Sea.
But in the winter,
South I flee.
I am a Beluga,
I'm all white.
From head to tail
I'm quite a sight.
You can hear me singing
Way up north,
Playing and swimming
Back and forth.
I'm a mighty Orca,
Black and white.
In the sea
I'm a beautiful sight.
I’m not very big,
But I am sleek.
I hunt for my food
Because I have teeth.
