This Is Me!

[back to THEMES]

  Objectives ~

People are alike in some ways, and unique in others.

There are certain body characteristics and abilities that make each of us unique and valuable.

Our senses help us learn about the world around us every day. Each sense uses a special organ.

People need each other. People are part of a family, a school, a community, and the world.

~ By cooperating, sharing, following rules and expectations, and by being a good friend, we are a valuable and important member of our class.

Learning to like and value ourselves is important.

~ Whatever we do, we do our best.
~ We are proud of who we are and what we can do.

Our feelings influence how we behave.

~ We can identify basic feelings.
   ~ Feelings communicate without words.
~ What we do with our feelings (how we act) is important.

Following basic safety rules at home, outdoors, and at school keeps us safe.

   ~ personal safety
   ~ school rules and safety
   ~ home and outdoor safety
   ~ substance use and misuse

There are certain things we must do each day to keep our bodies clean and healthy.

~ Cleanliness – caring for our teeth, and hand washing are very important.
~ Rest and exercise keep us healthy.
~ Good food is important for energy and good health.

(These objectives address some of our Science and Health goals.)

This is the Theme that kicks off our year together.
We work on our rules and routines as we get to know and appreciate each other.
Safety is a big topic, and a large part of why we have so many rules!
Knowing that we are special and have an important part in the makeup of our "school family"
prepares the way for a great time together

and increases our effectiveness as we learn and work as caring friends
on this special journey!

Special Me
[to the tune of “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”]

Special, special, special me,
I’m as special as can be.
There is no one quite like me.
I am are great as I can be.
Special, special, special me,
I’m as special as can be.

This Is Me

This is me, form my head to my toes.
I have two eyes and one little nose.
I can wiggle my ears and stamp my feet.
From my head to my toes I’m really neat!

That’s Me!

I have ten little fingers,
ten little toes,
two arms
and one little nose.
One little mouth,
and two little ears.
Two little eyes
for smiles and tears.
One little head,
and two little feet.
One little chin.
That’s me complete!

Me

On my face I have a nose,
And way down here I have ten toes.
I have two eyes that I can blink,
I have a head to help me think.
I have a chin and very near,
I have two ears to help me hear.
I have a mouth with which to eat,
and when I run I use my feet.
Here are my arms to hold up high,
and here’s a hand to wave good-by.

Wiggly Tooth

Once I had a little tooth
That wobbled every day.
When I ate and when I talked,
It wiggled every way.

Then I had some candy –
A sticky taffy roll.
Now where my wiggly tooth was –
Is nothing but a hole!!

~ Lillie D. Chaffin

Brushing
(to the tune of "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star")

Here's my toothpaste
Here's my brush
I won't hurry, I won't rush.
Working hard to keep teeth clean
Front and back and in between
When I brush for quite a while
I will have a happy smile.

Eat Them Everyday
(to the tune of "Row Row Row Your Boat")

Milk, milk, eggs and cheese
Fruits and vegetables
Meat and breads and cereals
Eat them everyday.

We Wash Our Hands
(to the tune of "The Ants Go Marching")

We wash our hands before we eat,
Hoorah, hoorah!
We wash our hands before we eat,
Hoorah, hoorah!
We wash and wash,
And scrub and scrub
And dry and dry our hands -
Real well!
We wash our hands before we eat,
Hoorah, hoorah!

Runny Noses

It’s just not funny
When your nose is runny
You feel soggy,
Hoarse and froggy.
Your throat is scratching,
The germs are hatching.
You know it’s catching -
KERCHOO!
